WHAT IS PRE-IMPLANTATION GENETIC DIAGNOSIS (PGD) ?

Pre-implantation genetic diagnosis is the procedure of taking one or two cells from the embryos obtained by in vitro fertilization, after selecting the normal embryos with specific genetic tests, transferring of the healthy embryos to the uterus of the female partner.

WHY PRE-IMPLANTATION GENETIC DIAGNOSIS IS PERFORMED?

The purpose of the pre-implantation genetic diagnosis is to diagnose the genetic disorders in embryo stage. Additionally, it is used to determine and eliminate common chromosomal abnormalities seen in embryos obtained from couples with certain indications.
