WILL THERE BE ANY RISKS IF SPERM SAMPLE IS GIVEN AT HOME OR ELSEWHERE?

The transition of the sample from gel phase to liquid phase is more rapid and healthy in body temperature (370). The most accurate evaluation is carried on samples that are not allowed in outer environment since the sperm motility is best in body temperature. Normally, the sperm sample is given in a special room in our center, and it is evaluated after 20 minutes at room temperature. If it must be given at home and delivered to the center, it must be kept between the palms or under the armpit, and must be delivered in 10 minutes at the most.

IF SOME OF THE SEMEN IS LOST WHEN GIVING THE SAMPLE, WILL IT BE RISKY IN TERMS OF THE EVALUATION?

The first portion of the semen is very important, because it contains more sperms. If this first portion is lost or wasted, laboratory staff must be informed, and another sample must be given, if possible.

WHY TWO OR MORE SAMPLES ARE REQUIRED SUBSEQUENTLY?

When the number of counted sperm is too low, it can sometimes be required to get more than one semen samples. With the first sample, sperms in the sperm-conveying canals (vas deferens) are obtained. The second sample will give sperms in epididymis, which are fresher cells. The second, or rarely, the third samples are needed with the hope of acquiring sperms with a greater ratio of motile sperms. This application is performed for men with a low count of sperms and low motility.
