Ovum collection procedure

Ovum collection is a procedure that is performed with the help of a needle amounted on the probe of a vaginal ultrasonography device. Local or general anesthesia can be applied during the procedure, according to the wish of patient. These alternatives must be decided upon beforehand. Ovum collection is a procedure that can be tolerated rather well, that does not cause serious pain, and it can be repeated. You will be required to fast since 24:00 p.m. of the previous day, and to come to the center without eating in the hour that will be notified to you.

There will be no drawbacks in taking 2-3 tablets of paracetamol to relieve the inguinal pain that can occur following this procedure. You will be given fluid nutrients after the finishing of the procedures, and permitted to leave the center in about an hour. During this period, the nurses in charge will check your situation, and you will be notified on relevant matters. There is a very small risk of bleeding and infection arising from the utilization of a needle during the collection of the ova. You may be requested to apply the hospital for IV application of antibiotics in case of an infection. Follow-up in the clinic or a laparoscopy may be needed very rarely.
