Dear Colleagues,

On behalf of the Organizing Committee and the International Working Group on Preimplantation Genetics, we would like to invite you to participate in the Fifth International Symposium on Preimplantation Genetics, which will be held in Antalya, Turkey, 5-7 June, 2003. It will come only one year after the previous one held in Cyprus, because of expanding indications and a wide clinical application of preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD). In contrast to prenatal diagnosis, PGD is being applied also for conditions with genetic predisposition, and has already become an important component of Assisted Reproduction. In view of the growing practical importance of PGD, the Fifth International Symposium on Preimplantation Genetics will concentrate on the clinical experience of PGD for single gene disorders, chromosomal anomalies, late onset disorders with genetic predisposition, sex selection, and non-disease testing. In addition, the relevant developments in the genome profile analysis and the prospects of therapeutic cloning will be also addressed. As some of the current applications of PGD are still controversial, ethical and social issues in connection with PGD and cloning will be further reviewed. For the second time Symposium is organized in the Eastern Mediterranean area, where PGD has appeared to be an acceptable option for prevention of genetic and chromosomal disorders, allowing avoidance of prenatal diagnosis and termination of pregnancy. Being part of Europe as well as of Asia, Turkey represents an ideal venue for the Symposium, allowing an easy access from Europe, Middle East and South East Asia. Antalya is also a well-known resort in the region, particularly delightful in early Summer.

We are looking forward to welcoming you in Antalya, Turkey.
